Fresh Carrots and Flying Saucer Squash

It is so cool to me to just walk outside and get a fresh carrot out of my garden and eat it within minutes. We are about to have a TON of carrots ready for eating. Our flying saucer squash is starting to produce as well.

New chickens and quail

10 new Ameraucana chickens. They lay green and sometimes blue shelled eggs. I can't wait till they are bigger and start laying eggs.
You can read about them here

20 new baby quail. We bought babies this time since our last 10 never even laid eggs. Didn't want to take a chance this time.

Baby Romaine Salad

Tonight we ate baby romaine salad. We thinned the romaine from the garden about a week ago and cleaned and refrigerated them.

The salad was awesome, unfortunately I didn't get a picture. Ryan put ham, crumbled Parmesan, and Caesar dressing. I can't wait till we thin it out again.

Broccoli Pasta

Tonight we tasted from our garden. Ryan cooked up some angel hair pasta with shrimp, bacon and broccoli. It really was delicious. We tried a few bites of the steamed broccoli before we mixed it into the pasta dish and I have to say it was better than any I've bought from the store. Of course, I didn't help grow the broccoli at the store.

I have never been so excited about a vegetable.

New Plants

We went to Lowes to find a climbing shade plant to go on our new gate we built. We found a wonderfully smelling Pink Jasmine. I can't wait for us to make the planter box for the bottom of the gate so it can go in and start making that area what it should be. I imagine EVERYTIME a breeze blows through the breezeway it will fill that area with its fragrance.

Ryan also bought me a raspberry bush to plant. Raspberries aren't his favorite, but I plan I eating them freshly picked.

The rest of our day was spent trying to convert an old dog house that someone made with plexiglass sides into a nice space for our quail's permanent home. We've placed it in view from our studio so we can enjoy watching them while he's making jewelry and I'm sewing. It's not quite finished yet, but I think it will be wonderful when it is.

Pics around The Best Little Farmhouse in Texas

Our blueberry bush has buds on it now.  I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Champ daydreaming in Ryan's chair.

I love our rooster.  I think he is so pretty.  Ryan is posting to ADD LINK HERE to verify what kind of rooster he is. Ryan thinks he is a XXXX.

Now we have Quail

10 Quail

Champ finds the biggest possible stick in the yard to chew on.

We fenced in the backyard today.  I finally have a nice gate for the breezeway entrance.  My Coca-Cola sign went perfect on the top.  Ryan and I are planning to add a planter box to the bottom with some type of climbing vine.

I can't believe how much the ducks have grown

Seed Packets

Ryan and I have been talking a lot about getting some seeds and plants and planting a garden.  We've read about what to plant in our area.  So today we went and picked out some plants and seeds to start with.
